Introduction to SBTi 2.0 – The New Era of Corporate Climate Target Setting

Since the publication of the TCFD framework, companies have been required to set climate targets in their ESG reports. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), founded in 2015, has provided the methodology for setting these targets in line with climate science. On 11 June 2026, the SBTi published Version 2.0 of its Corporate Net‑Zero Standard – the most significant upgrade since the standard was first introduced in 2021. This marks a fundamental shift: from a "target‑setting tool" to a comprehensive "action framework" for implementation.
